Position: MERL Officer
Location: Ethiopia
The Opportunity:
The MERL Officer will be responsible for supporting the implementation and realization of Plan International Ethiopia’s (PIE) strategy, specifically by developing and leading the Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, and Learning (MERL) humanitarian response strategy. The role includes:
• Providing MERL technical support on humanitarian response research, studies, and evaluations.
• Managing outsourced consultancy works.
• Conducting quarterly monitoring field visits.
• Reviewing the quality and consolidating quarterly and annual reports of humanitarian response projects.
Safeguarding Children and Young People (Safeguarding) and Gender Equality and Inclusion (GEI):
• Implements Safeguarding and GEI policies and Plan International’s Code of Conduct (CoC).
• Ensures that team members are inducted and understand their role in safeguarding and GEI.
• Promotes Plan Ethiopia’s contribution to Plan International’s global safeguarding and GEI efforts.
About You:
The ideal candidate will possess:
• A BA/BSC or Master’s Degree in Social Science, Development Studies, Economics, Statistics, or Management.
• A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in gender-transformative MERL.
• Practical knowledge of monitoring and evaluation methodologies.
• Experience in staff/team management, coaching, and performance reviews.
• Knowledge of strategic planning processes.
• Ability to communicate effectively and build strong working relationships.
Language Requirements:
• Fluency in English.
• Knowledge of Amharic and/or Affan Oromo is mandatory.
