About iDE
International Development Enterprises (iDE) is a global NGO dedicated to creating income and livelihood opportunities for poor rural households in Ethiopia. iDE implements various development projects across six national regional states: Amhara, Oromia, South Ethiopia, South West Ethiopia, Somali, and Tigray.
iDE is currently seeking a qualified, dynamic, and results-driven Market System Development (MSD) Specialist to support The Sustainable Private Sector Engagement in Developing Inclusive Forest Products Markets in Ethiopia program. This initiative aims to strengthen Ethiopia’s forest product sector by fostering inclusive growth, improving market access, and addressing key industry challenges.
Key Responsibilities
• Market Analysis: Conduct in-depth market assessments to identify trends, challenges, and opportunities. Use findings to inform MSD strategy development.
• Training & Capacity Building: Provide training to private sector partners, local entrepreneurs, and organizations, ensuring long-term market sustainability through knowledge transfer and skill development.
• Private Sector Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with key private sector stakeholders, fostering collaboration aligned with program objectives.
• Entrepreneurship Training: Design and deliver targeted training programs to equip entrepreneurs with skills for business growth, financial sustainability, and market expansion.
• Business Development Services (BDS): Provide continuous BDS support to private sector actors, ensuring businesses access necessary resources and support.
• Market Linkages: Facilitate connections between local businesses, entrepreneurs, suppliers, buyers, and investors to enhance market access and expand opportunities.
• Report Writing: Prepare comprehensive reports on market system analysis, program progress, and stakeholder engagement to inform decision-making.
• Monitoring & Evaluation: Oversee MSD activities, tracking progress and impact while refining strategies for success.
• Relationship Management: Maintain effective partnerships with stakeholders, donors, and government agencies. Represent iDE in industry meetings and events.
• Industry Representation: Act as the program’s key representative in relevant forums, networks, and multi-stakeholder platforms.
Qualifications & Experience
• Education:
• Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, International Development, or a related field.
• Preferred: Master’s degree in a relevant field.
• Work Experience:
• For BA holders: Minimum 5 years of experience in Market System Development (MSD), business development, or private sector engagement.
• For MA holders: Minimum 3 years of experience in relevant fields.
• Technical Skills:
• Strong expertise in market analysis and capacity-building initiatives.
• Proficiency in Business Development Services (BDS) and entrepreneurship support.
• Strong communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent report writing and documentation abilities.
• Experience collaborating with government entities, private sector stakeholders, and donors.
• Familiarity with monitoring and evaluation of MSD projects is an advantage.
Desired Skills
• Strong problem-solving and adaptability in dynamic environments.
• Knowledge of Ethiopia’s local market landscape, especially the forest industry.
• Ability to build and manage partnerships with consortium partners, donors, and local governments.
• Effective communication to ensure project targets and donor obligations are met.
• Willingness to travel frequently to project sites.
