Position: Project Officer II – Farmer Profiling

Term of Employment: Six months with a possibility of extension

Duty Stations:

• Oromia (Addis Ababa) – 1 Position

• Amhara (Bahir Dar) – 1 Position

• Tigray (Mekelle) – 1 Position

• Hawassa – 1 Position

About the Project and Role

The Ethiopian Digital Agriculture Extension and Advisory Services (DAEAS) 2030 Roadmap envisions a productive and inclusive agri-food system driven by digital services. As part of this vision, the Farmer Profiling Project aims to create a comprehensive farmer database to improve data quality, integration, and access.

Over three years, the initiative will develop 1 million farmer profiles, enabling more efficient digital extension services and strengthening Ethiopia’s agricultural system.

Role Overview

ATI is seeking a Project Officer II to support the Farmer Profiling Project. The Project Officer will:

• Assist in building and managing a farmer profile database.

• Support data collection, cleaning, and analysis.

• Coordinate project activities and stakeholder engagement.

• Ensure successful implementation of digital agriculture solutions in the assigned region.

This role requires strong project management skills, experience in digital tools, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Key Responsibilities

1. Project Implementation & Data Management

• Assist in planning, executing, and monitoring the Farmer Profiling Pilot.

• Support day-to-day project activities, ensuring timely completion.

• Facilitate data collection, validation, and quality control.

• Collaborate with data enumerators and statisticians for effective data management.

• Generate high-quality reports and documentation.

2. Stakeholder Engagement & Training

• Coordinate with regional stakeholders, including Bureaus of Agriculture (BoA), NGOs, donors, and private sector partners.

• Organize training sessions and workshops for data enumerators and development agents.

• Provide technical support on Open Data Kit (ODK) and other digital data collection tools.

• Ensure field teams have the necessary resources (e.g., mobile data packages, ICT tools).

3. Digital Agriculture & System Development

• Support the integration of digital solutions for smallholder farmers.

• Assist in developing communication strategies for project outreach.

• Analyze farmer data to identify trends and opportunities for agricultural development.

• Participate in system enhancement discussions, aligning regional needs with project goals.

Qualifications & Competencies

Required Education & Experience

• Master’s degree in Project Management, Statistics, Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Management, or related fields.

• 4+ years of relevant experience in project management, preferably in agriculture or digital initiatives.

Technical & Professional Skills

• Experience managing projects involving data collection, analysis, and system design.

• Familiarity with digital agriculture tools and platforms.

• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.

• Proven ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including government agencies, private sector, and NGOs.

• Fluency in English and Amharic. Knowledge of local languages is mandatory.

• Willingness to travel to different regions as required.
