Position: Junior Program Officer
Location: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
Department: AUC – Political Affairs, Peace and Security (PAPS)
Employment Type: One-year contract (renewable)
Citizenship Requirement: Open to African nationals only

Duties & Responsibilities
The Junior Program Officer will work under the Mediation and Dialogue Division (MDD) and support the Youth for Peace Africa (Y4P) program. Key responsibilities include:
- Assist in implementing work plans for Y4P, WiseYouth, and FemWise-Africa
- Support the AU’s Youth, Peace & Security (YPS) Framework and global YPS instruments (UNSCR 2250, 2419)
- Monitor YPS implementation and conduct benchmarking exercises
- Promote gender and youth inclusion in peacebuilding and mediation
- Analyze peace and security trends affecting youth and women
- Draft reports, briefing notes, concept papers, and project proposals
- Support program coordination with AU member states, RECs/RMs, and international partners
- Handle administrative tasks related to YPS and peace projects
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Peace & Security Studies, Political Science, International Relations, Public Policy, or related field
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience (peacebuilding, political analysis, monitoring, or program implementation)
- Experience with international or regional institutions such as the AU, RECs, or think tanks is an advantage
- Master’s degree is preferred but not mandatory
Skills and Competencies
- Strong analytical, reporting, and communication skills
- Ability to prepare evidence-based reports and strategic recommendations
- Solid understanding of AU peace and security frameworks
- Skilled in Microsoft Office tools: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
- Ability to work in a multicultural team and under pressure
- Proficiency in at least one AU working language; knowledge of more is a plus
Languages
- Fluency in English, French, Arabic, Portuguese, or other AU languages is advantageous
